Fall is Here and So is "Mater"!

Don't you think our old pickup truck reminds you of Mater on the kid's movie "Cars"?  We thought it did and have nicknamed him that!  If you've never seen "Cars", then you're not the parent or grandparent  of young children. You need to rent it and watch it.

We've had a few changes at the mall.  The Curious Cottage has gone from one booth to two and one/half booths, plus we've got some really great new vendors.  If you're in our area (Dothan, Al) you need to stop in and see all that's going on.

I added this beautiful bed that I bought at an estate sale last week. Bless Pete if it didn't sell today!
Please notice the pair of silver candlelabra sitting inside the bed - they are gorgeous and adjust to three
different levels. Know anyone having a wedding soon?  Also check out the very nice print of "Blue Boy". I've got lots of new artwork too. Signing off for now but come see us real soon!

Atlanta Again!

We are back in Atlanta for the second time in one month. Not for pleasure either time - for a funeral.
Last month a dear friend of ours passed away and this time for the funeral of my son-in-law's mother.  Both had Alzheimer's disease. My oh my, what a terrible way to suffer and die. If you haven't lost someone close to you from this terrible malady, then you are fortunate indeed.

I don't have any pictures for you this time because they are on another computer which I left at home. Just trust me to tell you that we have a booth plum full of interesting things. I picked up 2 heavy wrought iron chairs, a wrought iron table, oodles of decorative pieces including several pictures, large ones, and a beautiful large mirror. I was about to forget a very nice wooden desk chair on rollers. Come in to see all my stuff at Old South Antique Mall on Reeves Street in Dothan, Al.

It's Hot as Blue Blazes!

and Fall is nearly here! However, my big ol' porch still looks like the tropics with my ginger plants in full bloom and the palms and lemon tree. And YES, we do have lemons on that tree! The flower bed we enlarged around the old pecan tree is full of impatiens, umbrella palms, elephant ears (green and black), and hydrangeas. The temperature is still WAY too high and the humidity, WOW!  Please hurry up Autumn!

Johnny (my husband) has been out of town since Thursday afternoon and I have been really busy - not painting which is what I wanted to do, but purchasing things to paint. I'm going to have a good time beginning on Monday morning, I hope. Let's just say I've got big plans in my head and I hope to be able to accomplish them. If so, The Curious Cottage should look really good by next weekend.

Meanwhile, I would like for you to see some new items at the shop!

This is a totally amazing doll! She was handmade and is jointed! The artist who made her, fashioned everything about her except her shoes and the feather in her hat! This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas present for that special little girl in your family.

The two chairs pictured below are very old and very charming! They are genuine leather and are classic club chairs - definitely vintage. They have served us well here at our own curious cottage, Bibury. I bought them years ago at an estate sale in Atlanta, Ga. and it was love at first sight!

A great little chest I picked up today at my honey hole! It is in excellent condition and ready to be used. I think I priced it at $59.00. What a deal!

I want you to see the two pictures of ladies leaning against the other two pictures. Those are the covers of vintage magazines! They are ready to hang in a bedroom or anywhere and will add a nice touch to your home!

That clock that you see in the middle of this picture is an authentic reproduction of
Mt. Vernon. It was an electric clock with a long white cord hanging out, but who wants a long cord hanging down their wall? Johnny installed a new clock mechanism that runs on batteries. Much better!

I know this next  picture is hard to decipher, so I'll do it for you. The red box is just that (perfect for toys, tools, or whatever). It is open and then there is a wooden apple crate inside it. On top of the crate is a screen that holds candles. To the right is a white hanging flower holder. You may just have to come in and have a look-see.

This is a baker's rack which has some beautiful items on it.
Everything on this rack is 50% off!!!!

Please come in and visit The Curious Cottage! I'm sure you will find something you love! I have many more items which I did not picture in this blog - I didn't want to bore you completely! If you can come by my house and see what I'm working on, that would be good too! Hope to see you at one place or the other. bk

Another Trip Coming Up

Can't believe I'm posting twice in the same week, but here goes ........

Johnny and I worked in the garage all morning getting a few more items ready for the booth. I got them added this afternoon, so my space is pretty full right now and the garage is not quite so cluttered. Yeah!!

This is a very pretty rocking chair - not sure what type of wood , but very pretty and has new caning!

Now the picture on the right  is a darling shabby chic valet.
Never seen one exactly like this. It even has the original brush for dusting off your guy's jacket or trousers.

This is an AWESOME wood box great for holding tools, toys, or TREASURES!

Love this white wicker chair! So sturdy and the wicker is in perfect condition.

Guess that wraps it up for today. Tomorrow I have to wash clothes and get ready for a road trip to Point Clear, Al and the GRAND HOTEL! It is fabulous! We've been several times and each time is better than the last! We go through little
towns like Daphne and Fairhope where there is lots of good shopping. So, who knows what we might find! Picking is such fun!

The World's Longest Yard Sale

It has been quite a while since I lasted posted. If my memory serves me correctly (and I must admit it doesn't always do that lately), it was the week before leaving on the trip with two friends to The World's Longest Yard Sale. You have to know that that was a total blast! Had so much fun and hope to participate again next year!!! We bought lots of goodies, many of which have already sold, and some yet to see the light of day from being stored in my garage. I'm infringing a little on Johnny's side of the garage though, so will have to drag them out soon.

We began our trip in Gadsden, Al through Chattanooga, and went as far as a little north of  Crossville, Tn. If I get to go next year, we will start in Chattanooga and go on up a little farther north, with a TRAILER! Oh, how we longed for a trailer or a big truck because there were tons of good buys that would not fit in my SUV.  We did pack it well though and everything came home without breakage. We were a little (make that a lot) intimidated with the thought of pulling a trailer with having never been before. If you see anything you like in these pictures, just shoot me an email and we'll see if they are still available.

Some FUN Coming Up Next Week

Can hardly wait until next week! For the first time in my life I will be going on a trip I've never made before. My partner in crime, June Kilgore, who is my next door neighbor at Old South Antique Mall, along with friend, Charlotte, will be heading to points north. Although this is the 25th anniversary of the Longest Yard Sale, it will be our first experience. We'll start out early Thursday morning in Gadsden, Ala. then travel Thursday and Friday and head home on Saturday. No guys, just gals. What total fun we are expecting to have!!! Please wish us well (pray for us!) and if there is something special you're wanting, I'll try to find it!

I wanted to show you the desk I've been working on. I really do like it and hope you do too! This is for my own personal use. I had a gorgeous Heckman desk in Atlanta and loved it, but alas it was too large for Bibury (our own curious cottage) and so our son became the new owner. Hope he enjoys it as much as I did.

I need a new lamp! I also have some hand painted plates to add to the wall with the clock, but it's coming along.
